Oxalis Precedents
Some of you may be aware that the fabrication installation in the Department of Architectural Science is inspired by the Oxalis plant. Though the actual final installation design is not a literal translation of the mechanisms and physiology of the plant, the systems, responsive ideas, and principles of the behavior have been adopted. Though physical constraints prevented it from becoming what it could have been, it is clear that there is quite a disparity between the plant and the installation. This is not a bad thing. Biomimicry does not equate to caricature and superficial form; remember that it deals with inspiration from biological processes and systems.
