First Steps of Exploration...



My objective is to create a prototype that emanates flexible/transformable architecture through the celebration of steel. I began to look at nature's way of modifying the physical state through the changing of volume/shape. I looked into ribbon worms and its hydroskeleton's fibre arrangement that enables its movement. Another species I explored was both the "resurrection fern" and the silver fern. The resurrection fern is known to be a natural shape memory material. The silver fern is renown for its ability to allow efficient leaf deployment. (Hmm could this be a canopy?)

Another branch of exploration that was looking at was cellular automata and its relation to structural design. Other than sea shells (i.e. conus), what else in nature is a prime example of this model?
